Nick Eastwood, Deputy Chairman of Wasps, said it would be another fantastic occasion at the Ricoh Arena.

“We are thrilled to have been chosen to host another high-profile rugby event at the Ricoh Arena after also being the selected venue for a European semi-final if Northampton Saints had beaten Clermont Auvergne,” he said.

“We are expecting a carnival atmosphere for a great rugby competition which will be an entertaining day out for all the family to enjoy.

“I am sure the players will respond to a cracking atmosphere within the Ricoh Arena as the profile of Rugby 7s builds in the countdown to its inclusion in next year’s Olympics.

“It will be a fantastic weekend for the Ricoh Arena celebrating 10 years of being a successful venue for business, entertainment and sport.”

Rugby Director at Premiership Rugby Phil Winstanley said: “The 7s Series kicked off in 2010 and since then it has become a significant date in the rugby calendar.

“We started last season’s event with more than 13,000 people at Kingsholm and we expect the demand to be high again this year.

“Twelve months before rugby returns to the Olympics – in Rio – it is crucial that Premiership Rugby continues to lead the way when it comes to club 7s. This will be an important competition and will start a run-in to the Olympic Games when rugby will be firmly in the world spotlight.”

Last season the Welsh Regions made their debut in the competition which was won by Gloucester Rugby, coached by Olly Morgan.

It has been agreed for the Welsh Regions to enter the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series for the second year with an announcement on a Welsh date and venue to follow.
