The Selecter
Date: 10 May 2018
New artists added to Stepback 80s line-up
The biggest 80s party of the Summer!
One of the leading bands of the 2-tone era has been added to a 80s revival concert taking place in Coventry later this year.
The Selecter - who rose to national fame in their home city of Coventry in the late 70s and early 80s – are performing at the StepBack 80s Concert at the Ricoh Arena’s Ericsson Indoor Arena on Saturday, December 22.
The eight strong band is led by original founding member, singer-songwriter and frontwoman Pauline Black, and fellow founding member Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson.
Songs written by the band are renowned for their lyrical observations of society with singles such as On My Radio, which made it into the Top 10 of the UK official Charts in 1979.
The following year they had a trio of hits – Three Minute Hero, Missing Words and The Whisper – making it into the Top 40 of the UK Official Charts.
The renowned band are still going strong and released their album, DAYLIGHT, in 2017 with modern numbers such as Frontline, which explores the dominance of the internet in day-to-day life.
Other artists performing at the Ericsson Indoor Arena on the same evening include Tony Hadley, Bonnie Tyler, ABC, Go West, Katrina and The Waves, and Black Lace.
StepBack 80s is being promoted by Showtime Promotions, who were also behind last year’s StepBack 80s concert at the Ericsson Indoor Arena which attracted more than 8,000 people.
Dan Nelmes, director at Showtime Promotions, said: “2-tone was a popular genre in the 70s and early 80s, particularly in Coventry, so we felt it was only right to add this to our line-up which also has some big-name pop acts.
“The Selecter were one of the leaders in this genre, and we think having them at the StepBack 80s concert in the birthplace of two-tone will really resonate with a lot of Coventrians from this era.
“We are close to finalising our line-up and have one more announcement to take in the coming weeks.”
The StepBack 80s Concert will follow on from its younger sibling, the StepBack 90s Concert, which is also taking place at the Ericsson Indoor Arena on Saturday, October 13.
Nick Eastwood, chief executive at the Ricoh Arena, added: “We’re really proud to be hosting one of Coventry’s own as they get ready to perform alongside some of the biggest names in 80s music.
“With so many iconic acts performing under one roof in the same evening, the stage is well and truly set for another memorable night.”
Tickets cost £50 plus a booking fee, and can be purchased by visiting www.ricoharena.com or www.stepbackconcerts.co.uk
