Coventry youngsters get creative with kit design competition!

Coventry Building Society Arena is continually exploring new ways to engage with our community. This year, we partnered with Coventry City Football Club and Sky Blues in the Community for a project that was both imaginative and close to our hearts—a kit design competition for the youth of Coventry!

A Wave of Youthful Creativity Hits the Arena

With the anticipation of Coventry City Football Club's new 2023/24 shirt on the rise, we wanted to get our younger fans involved. What better way than to invite them to unleash their creativity and design their own version of the Coventry City kit?

Sky Blues in the Community took charge of distributing design templates to every primary school in Coventry and Warwickshire. The response was overwhelming! Over 100 children sent in their creative and imaginative designs, filling our offices with color, flair, and football enthusiasm.

The Spotlight on Young Artists

Alan Diaz, Head of Concessions here at Coventry Building Society Arena, had the pleasure of overseeing the project.

“We had some incredibly creative designs submitted to the competition and it was fantastic to see so many schools and children get involved.

“All of the entries to the competition were on display in the Family Zone next to the community wall for our first home game of the season, with thousands of fans stopping by during the day to take a look.

“It was very difficult to choose the winners as we were so impressed with the high standard of entries.”

And the Winners Are…

Choosing the winners was no easy task, given the exceptional quality of the entries. But, after much deliberation, five schools were chosen. Their students enjoyed several fabulous prizes:

  • Their design prominently displayed at Coventry Building Society Arena

  • A pitch-side photo session with their winning design

  • A chance to meet a former Coventry City Football Club player

  • Coventry Building Society Arena goodie bags

  • Ticket vouchers for a future Coventry City match for one adult and one child

  • £50 in book vouchers

More Than Just a Competition

This competition wasn't just about art; it was about community engagement and youth empowerment. Harvey Morgan, Business Development Manager at Sky Blues in the Community, agreed:

“This was a great opportunity for Primary School students to showcase their artistic skills, imagination and creativity. Along with the club and Coventry Building Society Arena, we wanted to give local youngsters the chance to express themselves, whilst putting their personal touch on the club we all know and love.

"The feedback we’ve had has been fantastic and this is definitely something we will look to continue into the new school term. Thank you to all our schools and talented pupils that took part in the competition, and we’ll look forward to the next one!"

What's Next?

Based on the fantastic response from our community and the immeasurable talent of our young artists, we're already thinking about how we can extend this competition into future school terms. We want to take a moment to thank all participating schools and young artists for their invaluable contributions to the Coventry Building Society Arena community spirit.
