Record attendance for Coventry City league fixture
A new record attendance has been set for a Coventry City league fixture at Coventry Building Society Arena.
The Sky Blues secured three points with a 2-1 win against Leeds United and a record 30,232 supporters were in attendance.
It marked the biggest ever crowd for a Coventry City match in the league at Coventry Building Society Arena.
The record crowd for a Sky Blues match at the Arena still stands at 31,407 which was set at a FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea in 2009.
The new league record set against Leeds builds on 12 months of huge attendances at the stadium, with 30,175 fans seeing a 2-0 victory against Birmingham City in April 2023.
Coventry Building Society Arena and Coventry City have been working in partnership to enhance and redefine the matchday experience for supporters at the stadium, with significant benefits brought to home and travelling fans.
This has included the external food and drink area on the east side of the stadium and introducing new food and drink kiosks in the concourse.
The stadium has worked hand in hand with Coventry City on inclusivity initiatives for LGBTQ+ supporters, and a partnership with Evans for Everyone which means fans can access free sanitary products on matchdays.
There have also been improvements made in the family zone and an introduction of a new text messaging service to crack down on anti-social behaviour.
Paul Michael, Managing Director of Coventry Building Society Arena, said: “We have seen consistent growth in attendances for Coventry City matches over the last two seasons, which has all built towards setting this new record for a league fixture.
“We’re proud to be working in partnership with the football club to grow and improve the matchday experience for supporters, with more plans set to be activated over the summer.
“We are working tirelessly to deliver a matchday experience to match the on-pitch success.
“It was a brilliant day at the venue and our team did an incredible job in delivering it, from operations and retail, to hospitality and security.”
The all-time record attendance for a sporting event still stands at 32,128, which was set by England’s Lionesses in the Arnold Clark Cup in February 2023.
