Skate into Coventry this Winter
Get your skates on and get ready to glide into the magical Winter Wonderland at the heart of Coventry City Centre.
From Friday 25 November to Sunday 8 January, Broadgate will be home to a festive ice rink and Winter Wonderland for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Coventry City Council is partnering with Visit Coventry and Coventry Business Improvement District (BID) to bring a festive experience to the city centre. As well as the ice rink, there will be festive food stands, Christmas music and a unique light curtain backdrop to add to the festive feel.
Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Cabinet Member for Events at Coventry City Council, said:
“We are excited to announce that we are bringing a festive themed ice-skating experience for residents and visitors alike to Coventry city centre as part of the festive celebrations this winter.
“The ice rink experience builds upon the legacy of the previous two years during our time as the UK City of Culture 2021 and will form a key centrepiece attraction as part of the city centre’s bigger Winter Wonderland offer.
“Come and join us for a unique ice-skating experience and soak up the festive spirit in Coventry where there is something for all the family to enjoy.”
The winter festive period is always a key time for city centre traders and the Ice Rink and wider Winter Wonderland promotion is aimed at increasing footfall and encourage local people to support their city centre.
Councillor Patricia Hetherton, Cabinet Member for City Services, added:
“We appreciate that everyone is living with challenges around the cost of living at the moment and the knock-on effects that may be having on traders and businesses as well as residents.
“Therefore, it’s important that we continue to actively promote our city centre and what it has to offer, whether that is spending time shopping, sampling the many food and drink options or enjoying events such as the festive ice rink.
“The festive period always brings a special atmosphere and I’m sure with this exciting addition to the city’s event calendar, it will be an extra-special time this year.”
The festive ice rink experience is being delivered by Coventry City Council who are working closely in partnership alongside the Coventry BID and the city’s Visit Coventry team to deliver additional attractions for the winter festive period.
Joanne Glover, Manager, Coventry BID said:
“Coventry Business Improvement District is delighted to be working with our partners to bring the ice-skating rink and festive food market to the heart of the city centre. We believe our city centre Christmas offering is the best to date and will attract the footfall we need into our city centre and businesses throughout the festive season.’
Making Coventry a major destination this winter is also an important element of the partnership as Paul Jones, Managing Director at Visit Coventry, added:
“Skate into Coventry will be the jewel in our Coventry Winter Wonderland crown, and with so much to see and do over the festive period, the city will have a visitor offering to rival its neighbours near and far. Here at Visit Coventry, we’re proud of the part we’re playing to create a festive experience that will draw visitors from across the region and beyond, providing a much-needed boost to our hotels and visitor attractions, as well as retail and hospitality businesses.”
The ice rink will be open seven days a week, operating throughout the day and into the evening and only closed on Christmas Day. Prices start from £6.95 for Go CV Plus card holders, and £10 for those without cards.
