Coventry Building Society Arena staff help clean up local canal

In an incredible display of environmental and community service, staff at Coventry Building society arena recently traded their laptops for an afternoon of hands-on clean-up duty.

With permission from the local council, they took to the surrounding neighbourhood of Coventry Canal to pick up litter and debris.

The initiative aims to make a positive impact on the local environment.

The Canal’s beautiful towpath provides peace and tranquillity away from the bustling city, stretching a convenient four miles from the city centre to the arena's doorstep. The canal serves as a conduit for foot traffic, making it a prime location for community engagement and environmental action.

The sustainability committee at the arena seized the opportunity to proactively address the issue and safeguard the integrity of our urban waterways.

The motivation for this event includes raising awareness about environmental issues among members of the public, promoting sustainable practices, fostering community participation and protecting the wildlife in the surrounding area.

Mark O’Shea, Catering and Experience Director at Coventry Building Society Arena said ”It was a very therapeutic way to spend a Friday afternoon. Taking part in this clean-up has really made us all more aware of our local surroundings at the Arena. It has been great to see the efforts of the team making a tangible impact, gathering eleven bags of litter!"

As a result of this initiative, the arena will continue to promote an environmentally conscious culture and create positive changes that will benefit its local community.
